Hope every body is doing fine.

My name is Tahir, and have recently (just day before yesterday) joined University of Southampton on a research visit for three months.

I have already sorted out my accomodation, but I am facing problems with the daily life here (This is my first ever visit to UK).

I dont know the places in the city, bus routes, supermarkets, halal food store and halal restuarents, mosque. Where you brother gather to offer Friday Prayer? How to get a mobile sim ( I have my own unlocked mobile with me), etc. etc.

Salam Tahir,

Sorry it has taken a few days for anyone to reply to you. I am not sure how far you've gotten since your post with regards finding your way around southampton, prayer room, shops, and finding a sim card for your phone, etc.

There are not many people around at the moment (including me) and so it is difficult to meet up before Jan 5th. If you have managed to get a sim card then you can call me on 07830119937 and we can discuss any specific queries over the phone.
If you still need a sim card, you can buy one from any mobile phone shop in the city centre (U1c bus goes there from highfield interchange). Any sim card is fine, if you are going to be making international calls from your mobile though, a provider like Lebara is probably best.

There are halal shops in portwood (again U1c bus goes there).
Friday prayer is usually in the students union but for the next 2 fridays it will be in Stoneham hall (U1a bus).
