The Islamic Society always strives to spread and raise Islamic awareness, and the Islamic Awareness Week is a great opportunity to show the humanity what is Islam.


This Sunday 7th of March at 07:00 am, and Monday the 8th of March at 7:30 am, two radio featurse on BBC radio Solent (96.1 fm) on Islamic Awerness Week and ISOC activities.

Please tune in to BBC radio Solent (FM 96.1) and pray to Allah that we represent and honour Islam InshAllah, Ameen.

Islam. You’ve heard all about it but you still got questions. And the queries just keep popping up in your head until you think, this is it …I.NEED.ANSWERS. And what better way to get the answers than asking the experts? Which is why ISOC proudly presents to you its biggest event of the year?


THE ISLAMIC AWARENESS WEEK (IAW)


Here are the highlights for the week. There is a huge variety of topics that will be discussed and a number of famous people you can listen to. Don't lose this timetable:

MON 8th March:

CAPTIVE TO CONVERT : British-born journalist, Yvonne Ridley tells her story of being captured by the TALIBAN while working for an undercover assignment in Afghanistan. Yvonne was a senior reporter of the Sunday Express at the time, having spent nearly 10 years in Fleet Street working for several prestige titles including The Sunday Times, The Observer and the Daily Mirror

Hijab-Liberation or Opression? Feminist and convert, Myriam Francois-Cerrah, shares her views on the much-disputed topic of the Islamic code of dress. Myriam, a Cambridge University Graduate frequently contributes towards public debates, including those on Newsnight, the BBC Big Questions, The Times, BBC Radio, The London Paper, The Cherwell and The F-word

Why Islam? By Hamza Andreas Tzortzis. Hamza, a convert to Islam, is an international public speaker on Islam, a writer and intellectual activist. He has debated prominent intellectuals and academics. Some of his interlocutors include the leading humanist and best-selling author Peter Cave, the editor of the Philosophy Now magazine Rick Lewis and the highly acclaimed Professor Simon Blackburn.

FRI 12th March

The Purpose of Life by Yusuf Chambers.
Yusuf is a U.K. based Da'ee of international fame. Yusuf Chambers is a young preacher from London, has greatly involved himself in many organizations in U.K. and outside like Peace TV, Islam Channel, Al-Jumuah magazine and Unity TV.

Islamic Exhibition on the Highfield Campus

8th, 9th March: Marquee outside SUSU building (Marquee)
10th, 11th, 12th: Building 40, SUSU Concourse

The Exhibition resources include: Posters, interactive presentations and video documentaries on various aspects of Islam, material on Islamic Art and Calligraphy, leaflets and DVD’s about Islamic topics and copies of the Quran in various translations.

Arrangements for food from various parts of the Muslim World, plus biscuits and cake and other delicacies have been made.
There will also be Henna Painting and other activities throughout the day.
